GUIDE: HOW TO STUDY FOR THE MIDTERM

CHAPTERS COVERED ON MIDTERM:  1, 2, 3, 17, 18, 19,

BRING:  Bring AT LEAST  two #2 pencils ( I will not provide pencils for you!!!)  make sure that your pencils have erasers.

TEST ITSELF:  200-250 Objective questions (placed on a scantron)

ORGANIZATION NOW!!!!:  Organize your notes, worksheets and quizzes by chapter.  This will save you a lot of time later for actual studying.  Place these papers in folders by chapter or in a binder with dividers by chapter.

HOW TO STUDY                                                                                                                                                           

1. Read a Chapter----including notes under pictures and diagrams.

 

2.  Review the notes for that chapter---use a highlighter to accent important points, concepts and information.

 

3.  Review any worksheets or quizzes given for that chapter

a.       make note of the items that you missed----you need to spend more time studying those areas so that you learn them

b.       spend less time on those areas that you knew well the first time

 

4.  Go over the Section Reviews, Chapter Study Guides, and Chapter Assessments/Feview in the textbook

      a.  write down the questions you cannot answer and then look up the answers

 

5.  Go over the online quiz, interactive tutor, pop-up videos (Tim & Moby) for your textbook chapters

 

6.  There will some diagrams on the test in a using science skills/matching format

 

7.  You will probably need to spend less time on the material most recently covered (ex: chapters 18, 19) as these

     will be freshest in your mind

     a.  you will need to spend more time on material from the beginning of the semester (metrics, cell parts, etc)

 

8.  If possible, after studying, have someone ask you questions about the information you have just reviewed

 

9.  Taylor your studying for how you learn:  visual, listening, hands on

 

10.  Studying in a quiet place where you can focus----no music except classical---turn off your phones, TV, video games etc.

 

11.  DO NOT leave the bulk of your studying time until the night before the test!!!!!!!

a.       there is too much material to cover and know-----start to plan your time now (use a calendar)

b.       budget your time since you have more than 1 midterm

c.       ask your teachers for help when you need it-----subject specific or study skills specific

Mon. Dec. 14,  1/2 day (8-12)-----periods 7 & 6

 

Tues. Dec. 15,  ½ day (8-12)----periods 5 & 4

 

Wed. Dec. 16,  ½ day (8-12)---- periods  3 & 2

 

Thurs. Dec. 17,  ½ day (8-9:45)----period 1

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

---bring a book, color book, newspaper, magazine, study materials, pillow

----DO NOT BRING ELECTRONIC DEVICES—GAMEBOY ETC.
