Class Information Algebra 1A |
|
This information is to inform you of the grading and expectations for this class. It is my desire to see you successfully gain the skills and knowledge necessary to help you grow in both the practical and academic worlds. Each student will be expected to put forth a great deal of effort toward the completion of assigned work. I will be available to assist and guide you through the work, however responsibility lies with you to attempt the assigned work and seek help when necessary.
Homework: Homework will be assigned every night, including Friday, and will be due the next class day. Late homework will not be accepted. Homework assignments will receive 3 pts (Excellent), 2 pts (Satisfactory), 1 pt (Unsatisfactory), or 0 pts (incomplete or late). All work is to be completed in pencil and corrected in red pen. Failure to do so will result in no credit. It is OK to work with someone else when stuck on a problem. However, simply copying another student’s work and answer without attempting to understand the problem is NOT allowed.
Grading: Your grade will be based upon your participation in class, homework, notes, quizzes, chapter tests and the semester final exam. Extra credit will be offered in small amounts throughout the semester. No special opportunities for extra credit will be offered, however, at the end of each semester I will drop your lowest HW grade and lowest quiz grade. Your Grade is computed as follows: Tests 45% Quizzes 15% Homework 20% Classwork/notes 10% Final 10%
Grading Scale: Homework grade: Work habits grade 90 - 100% A 95-100% O 80 - 89% B 85-94% S 70 - 79% C 75-84% N 60 - 69% D Below 74% U Below 60% F
Tests and Quizzes: All tests and quizzes will be kept in a notebook in my classroom. You may check out the notebook to take home to go over with a parent or a tutor. You will be allowed to have it one night or over the weekend. No folders will be checked out the day before finals.
Notebook: You are required to maintain a one subject spiral notebook that contains notes on the lessons each day and any in class work completed in groups or individually. This notebook will be graded at the end of each chapter.
Textbook: Algebra I, by Glencoe. Replacement Cost: $72 In addition to your textbook, you will be issued a workbook. You are to have it with you everyday. If it is lost, the replacement cost is $10. Your book must be covered at all times. (If you use a stretch cover, it must be an extra large.)
Supplies: Supplies to be in student’s possession each class day of school are: Lined notebook paper, graph paper, #2 pencil, eraser, red pen, scientific calculator (graphing calculator recommended), spiral notebook (recommended: grid paper for notes), covered textbook.
