Beginning Instruments


Beginning orchestra is an ensemble for students who wish to learn an instrument for the first time.  This class is primarily for students in the 8th grade, but it is also available for senior high students.  This class is not available for 7th grade students.

In Beginning Orchestra, students learn the fundamentals of music and playing an instrument in a performing ensemble.  Students can choose instruments from the standard orchestra instrumentation including woodwinds (flute, clarinet, oboe,  alto and tenor sax), brass (trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium, tuba), percussion (snare drum, bass drum, keyboard percussion, timpani, etc.), and strings (violin, viola, cello and double bass).

This class does not provide opportunities for students who wish to learn the guitar, piano or electric bass.

Successful completion of this class will enable to students to be eligible for Intermediate Orchestra
